'Matabuey' is an evergreen shrub or medium-sized tree, typically attaining a height ranging from 10 to 20 feet. Its glossy, dark green foliage consists of oval-shaped leaves, complemented by striking yellow-orange funnel-shaped flowers and bearing fruit in the form of yellow-orange berries. Endemic to Puerto Rico, it thrives particularly in limestone soils at low elevations, making it exceptionally well-suited to the conditions of South Florida.
